Doctors say he has six pellet wounds on his back
BNP Joint Secretary General Mahbub Uddin Khokon was shot when a clash broke out during his campaign in Noakhali’s Sonaimuri on Saturday afternoon.
Two others were also shot during the altercation. All three have been admitted to Noakhali Sadar General Hospital.
The hospital’s on-duty doctor Fazle Rabbani said Khokon sustained six pellet wounds on his back.
His Personal Secretary Iqbal Hossain Rubel was shot in the leg and another activist named Md Sohel was hit in the shoulder.
Party activists at the hospital said Khokon, the BNP candidate for Noakhali 1 constituency, was campaigning for the upcoming general election in Sonaimuri Bazar in the afternoon when a clash broke out between his supporters and local Awami League activists.
Khokon told reporters that he was shot by the police.
However, Noakhali Superintendent of Police Ilias Sharif said police had only fired a few blanks when the clash broke out.
