The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) has demanded immediate action against those hindering the coalition candidates from conducting campaigns for the upcoming 11th general election.

An alliance team met Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed and placed a complaint at the commission’s Agargaon office in Dhaka on Saturday.

"The ruling party men have torn our posters. They along with law enforcement are also trying to prevent us from electioneering. We are here to inform the commission secretary of the issues," Communist Party of Bangladesh General Secretary Shah Alam, who led the delegation, told reporters.

He said candidates of the Dhaka 6, 12, 13, 14, 17, Patuakhali 4, Kushtia 3, Satkhira 1, Jamalpur 2, and Dinajpur 4 constituencies are facing obstacles during campaigns.

The other complaints include tearing up campaign posters, police harassment and attack on candidates by the ruling Awami League activists.

On December 13, alliance candidate Zonayed Saki for Dhaka 12 constituency came under attack during campaigning in Dhaka’s Farmgate area.

A group of unknown people tore up campaign posters in Moghbazar, Eskaton and Monipuri Para areas of the constituency.

The election is scheduled to be held on December 30.
