BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman said the election will only be acceptable if the CEC takes action against the crimes

BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman has said the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nurul Huda is embarrassed as he is helpless to take action against the crimes committed unto BNP.

The BNP leader said this to the journalists when she, leading a BNP delegation, went to the Election Commission to submit a written complaint, on Wednesday, at noon.

She said: “We think the chief commissioner is helpless and embarrassed as he is unable to take any action for all the crimes committed toward BNP leaders, activists, and followers.

“We hope that he takes action—only then will the election be acceptable to all.”

In the letter, BNP claimed that law enforcement agencies have been harassing and arresting BNP leaders and activists—even after symbols for the election has been allocated. They said their biggest opponents, Awami League's members, were attacking BNP's leaders, activists, and followers.

DCC former commissioner BNP leader Mir Hossain Miru, GM Badshah, Mozammel Hoque, and Pallabi police station BNP leader Moazzem Hossain were also arrested— along with Jhalakathi’s Rajapur police station’s BNP General Secretary Nasim Akand.

Furthermore, the letter claimed that in Noakhali’s Kabirhat upazila, Awami League activists attacked and injured 30 BNP activists during the electoral campaign of Barrister Moudud Ahmed.

There were also attacks on Oikya Front leader GM Siraj’s campaign in Bogra 5 constituency. The letter continued that six BNP leaders and activists were arrested, and false cases were filed against 52 others, along with cases of vandalism of BNP campaigns in Jamalpur.

In Chuadanga, Awami League activists injured seven BNP activists and vandalized two cars using the “Joy Bangla” slogan.
