BNP leaders allege that around 50 BNP leaders and activists were injured in the attack
Miscreants have allegedly attacked the home of BNP candidate from Sirajganj 6 constituency Dr MA Muhit.
The incident occurred in Shahjadpur upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
BNP leaders have alleged that around 50 leaders and activists of the party were injured in the attack.
Earlier on Tuesday, two other BNP leaders – upazila BNP vice president Emdadul Haque Naoshad, 55, and Shahjadpur municipalality unit Jubo Dal president Md Abdullah, 35 – also claimed that they had been attacked near the town mosque.
Upazila BNP General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Hiru said: “Awami League activists attacked Dr Muhit’s house for no reason. They also burned three motorcycles.”
After the attack, Shahjadpur police went to Dr Muhit’s house and inspected the area, before assigning additional policemen for his protection.
Meanwhile, Shahjadpur municipality Awami League General Secretary Amirul Islam Shahu claimed that their leaders and activists had been attacked from the house while passing by on motorcycles, adding that some members of the party had been beaten and two bikes set ablaze.
Shahjadpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khwaja Md Golam Kibria said: “We have not received any written or verbal complaints from BNP over the matter, but Awami League members have complained and a case is being filed in this regard.”
