His appeal was rejected by the commission on Friday after a hearing. His nomination was rejected by the returning officer on the grounds that he did not present the signatures of one percent of the voters of his constituency.

Imran previously told reporters that he had collected 500 signatures in addition to what was required by the law, but the returning officer would not accept them.
