Kamal: Strong legal action will be taken if rumors are spread in social media

He has urged the general people of Bangladesh not to fall for fake news or rumors on social media platforms

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said strong and immediate action will be taken against anyone or any group if found responsible for spreading rumors on social media platforms.

He made this statement while addressing the press at the RAB Media Center in Kawran Bazar on Thursday.

He has also urged the general people of Bangladesh not to fall for fake news or rumors on any social media platform.

He said: "Without verifying the source or ensuring authenticity one cannot share or upload any news onvarious social media platforms. We have identified the people who are responsible for this and the others spreading rumors will be caught verysoon. Strict legal action will be taken against them."

"Rumors are like a box of matches. One match stick can create a flame which in seconds can turn into a wildfire and destroy everything along its path. It can destroy the peace and harmony of the country," he added.

We have come a long way as a country. We are working hard to build a Digital Bangladesh. Internet has reached the farthest corners of the country. Just like the merits of this achievement we also have to be very careful about its misuse," he further added.

Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion Benazir Ahmed, Home Secretary Public Security Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin and other senior government and law enforcement officials were also present during the event.
