'Our candidates did not get justice from the returning officers'
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said the Election Commission has done the party justice, after some of the appeals by rejected BNP candidates were approved by the commission.
“Today [on Thursday], some candidates of BNP have been considered eligible for the election by the Election Commission. I thank the commission as they have done justice. This proves that our candidates did not get justice from the returning officers,” he said.
Fakhrul made the comments during a press briefing at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office.
“As we said before, government officials often have to accept the government's orders. As a result, they could not do justice,” he added.
“I think this is a victory. I also believe that, if justice is established, then the country's leader Begum Khaleda Zia will also be considered a legitimate candidate,” the BNP secretary general said.
Fakhrul also claimed the election was at risk of losing neutrality, due to the ongoing nationwide arrests of BNP activists.
He added that the party would be able to publish the names of some of their candidates at around 8pm.
