Over the last 10 years, the assets of Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif have grown many times over.

According to the declarations, Inu has a total annual income of around Tk34.61 lakhs.
On the other hand Hanif has total assets worth Tk23.54 crore, which is almost three times the wealth he reported five years ago, Tk8.5 crore.
Inu owns no home
The information minister does not have a house to his name, though he has a 10 katha plot in Dhaka’s Purbachal, three cars of total Tk1.81 crore value, furniture worth Tk1.55 lakh and cash and savings totalling around Tk1 crore.
The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader’s three reported sources of income are his company Shom Computers, his salaries and benefits, and the fees he gets for attending talks and TV shows. These three total up to around Tk34.61 lakh annually. He also has 25 bhori of gold.
During the ninth parliamentary election in 2008, Inu had reported a cash reserve of Tk1.11 lakh and in the 10th he reported Tk6.81 lakh. In contrast his current reported cash reserve is Tk50.66 lakh.
The minister’s wife Afroza Haque Rina has also reported a jump in her wealth. However, her sources of income were not disclosed on the affidavit.
Unlike her husband, she owns a two-storey house and an apartment.
Hanif’s wife owns nothing
Awami League Joint General Secretary Hanif has a total asset of Tk23.54 crore. In the previous general election he had reported a wealth of Tk8.5 crore.
Among his assets is Tk72.71 lakh in cash and about Tk5 crore in investments. He has three cars worth Tk1.92 crore.
He also owns several properties and lands, including a 5 katha plot in Gulshan that is worth Tk3.39 crore.
In the ninth parliamentary election, Hanif’s affidavit showed his annual income at Tk3.82 crore.
In the 10th parliamentary election, his wife was shown to have assets worth Tk1.64 crore. However, in the latest affidavit, there are no assets to Hanif’s wife’s name.
