He said the government wants to hold credible elections
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the government does not want to hold a lopsided election because Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is against scoring a goal on an empty field.
He stated this while briefing reporters at the Awami League President’s Dhanmondi office on Monday, reports UNB.
Obaidul, also the Road, Transport and Bridges minister, said: “We will try so that a level-playing field is not affected in any way.
“We do not want to contest the election creating an uneven condition.”
He also said: “We must be with the people. I have the responsibility [to ensure that] from an important position of the party.”
Stating that the government wants to hold credible elections, Quader said a situation like the last election will not be created this time.
“We do not want the election atmosphere to be hampered in any way,” he insisted.
When is the election?
The parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on December 30.
The commission scrutinized nomination papers on Sunday and the deadline to withdraw one’s candidacy is December 9.
