Jatiya Oikya Front chief Dr Kamal Hossain has said that the Front will nominate candidates in all 300 constituencies for the upcoming 11th general election.

He announced this at a press conference at the National Press Club on Saturday afternoon.

Dr Kamal said: “We are facing challenging times because of the election on December 30. Giving nomination to the best candidate is very important in the election. Jatiya Oikya Front is aware of this.

“The front will give individual candidates for every constituency after scrutinizing the nomination seekers.”

He also said: “I request the people of the country and the Election Commission to ensure a fair and free election. The Election Commission has to fulfilits responsibilities in a neutral, independent and dedicated manner. All the officials including the returning officers, polling officers and others have to stand up to party loyalty and perform their respective duties.”

He further said, “If people cannot exercise their voting rights then the independence and sovereignty of the country will be threatened.”

“The Election Commission has said that photos or videos cannot be taken during the election, if it is not cancelled then legal action will be taken against them,” he added.

Responding in a question from a journalist Dr Kamal said: “It is mentioned about equal politics in the constitution, if the Front comes to power, the constitution will be strictly followed.

“There is no need to start a new trend of politics; it is already mentioned in the constitution. If you manage the state in accordance with the constitution, the politics of vengeance will be stopped.”

He also requested cooperation from the mass media, urging them to play an active role during the election.

“The election atmosphere is not well due to mass arrests of opposition leaders and activists. After the polls schedule was announced, total 681 people were been arrested. Two of them are candidates, he said.

Dr Kamal, who is also the president of Gono Forum, again urged the people, as the owners of the state, to guard the polling centres so that the December 30 polls can be held in a free and fair manner.

He said: "People will have to remain united to save the election process. We all must remain alert to see whether anyone is creating any obstacle to the voting process.

Dr Kamal urged the people to cast their votes on the day of the election and make sure all can cast their votes without any hindrance.

“People want change. They want a free and fair election. But it will be possible only if they stay united and actively participate, he added.
