The district is considered a BNP stronghold
More than fifty prospective candidates have submitted nomination forms in Feni—seeking BNP’s nomination to contest in the upcoming 11th general election. The district is considered, by many, as a stronghold of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Along with the BNP chief, some of the possible prospective candidates seeking the nomination are party Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo, BNP chairperson’s Advisor Joynal Abedin, and Brig (retd) Nasir Uddin Ahmed.
A few fresh faces, such as former students’ leader Nazmul Karim, and Jubo Dal leader Rafiqul Alam also submitted nomination forms.
According to party sources, the first nomination paper to contest in Feni 1 constituency was picked up on behalf of Khaleda Zia. She was elected lawmaker for Feni 1 five times, and became the prime minister for three terms.
Due to the uncertainty centering on whether the presently-imprisoned Khaleda Zia will be able to contest in the next parliamentary election, multiple other candidates have also submitted forms.
General Secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) Shirin Akhter is the incumbent lawmaker in Feni 1.
Some of the major prospective candidates who submitted nomination forms to contest for BNP in Feni 2 are three-time lawmaker Prof Joynal Abedin and Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal President Rafiqul Alam.
In Feni 3 constituency, a large number of nomination-aspirants submitted their nomination forms to BNP. Among them are BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo and Brig (retd) Nasir Uddin Ahmed.
