Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has said that BNP committed arson during Wednesday's Naya Paltan clash—to thwart the upcoming 11th general election.

He said this to reporters, at an event, while exchanging greetings with leaders and activists – in the Sarak Bazaar area of Akhaura upazila under Brahmanbaria district – on Friday morning.

The minister said: "BNP has a knack for blaming others when they are at fault. All of you have seen how the helmet-wearing BNP activists destroyed and torched the police car. The current activities of BNP reminded us of the way they terrorized [the public] in 2014."

At that time, Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hayat-Ud-Dowla Khan, Superintendent of Police Md Anwar Hossain Khan, Akhaura upazila Executive Officer Shamsuzzaman, Akhaura Municipality Mayor Takjil Khalifa Kajol, upazila Awami League Convener Principal Joynal Abedin, and local Awami League leaders – among others – attended the event, along with the minister.
