Previously the commission had said EVMs would be used on a small scale in urban areas

Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will not be used in the 11th general election if the public is not confident in them, says an election commissioner.

“EVMs will be scrapped if the people do not have confidence in them,” Kabita Khanam said at an exhibition on EVMs, at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, in Dhaka on Monday.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda inaugurated the exhibition.

At the fair, viewers will be able to see how EVMs should be used.

The event will remain open for all from 3pm to 9pm.

Previously, in his address to the nation, the chief election commissioner had said EVMs would be used on a small scale, in urban areas, during the election.

The election will be held on December 30.
