The official announcement is yet to be made

Awami League mayoral candidate Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah is set to become the new mayor of Barisal City Corporation.

According to the unofficial results announced by the returning officer Monday night, with the boat symbol he bagged 107,353 votes in 107 out of 123 polling centres.

His rival BNP’s mayor runner Mujibur Rahman Sarwar was trailing behind with 13,135 votes.

Vote counting had begun in the afternoon after the balloting ended amid allegations of vote rigging and occupying polling centres, and election boycott.
