AL candidate casts his vote in Rajshahi city polls

He cast his vote at the Satellite Town High School at around 8:10am on Monday

Awami League candidate for Rajshahi City Corporation election, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, has cast his vote. 

He voted at the Satellite Town High School at around 8:10am on Monday, election day. 

"I hope the public will elect me," Liton said. "Whatever their decision is, I will accept it.

"I request the law enforcers to ensure a peaceful voting environment," he said. 

A total of five candidates are running for the mayoral post in Rajshahi, but the main contest will be held between Awami League candidate Liton, and BNP candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul. The other candidates are Shafiqul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Habibur Rahman of Jatiya Party, and Morad Morshed, an independent candidate, also a member of Ganasonghati Andolan.

There are 160 general councillor candidates competing for 30 posts, while 52 females are vying for the 10 seats reserved for women in Rajshahi. A total of 318,138 voters are casting their vote in a total of 136 polling centres. 

As many as 950 police, 450 members of Rapid Action Battalion, 450 members of Border Guard Bangladesh, and 1,975 Ansar members are deployed on voting day.
