Barisal police says most polling centres in the city are sensitive

Fifty polling centres have been identified as most sensitive, 62 assensitive, and 11 as general

Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Special Branch has identified 112 of the 123 Barisal City Corporation election polling centres as sensitive and risky.

BMP Detective Branch Assistant Commissioner, Nasiruddin Mallik,said at a Barisal DB office press briefing on Thursday.

The BMP Special Branch has categorized the centres as most sensitive, sensitive, and general.

Fifty polling centres have been identified as most sensitive, 62 assensitive, and 11 as general.

Special Branch staff said they went to the centres and took information from voters and candidates, based on which they sorted out the risks at each polling centre.

They said they have categorized polling centres  as sensitive,when the centresare close to a candidate’s house and in areas where the candidates have influence. The centres which are far from administrative offices have also been listed as sensitive.

There will be increased security and patroling by law enforcement near risky and sensitive polling centres.

DB AC Nasiruddin said: “The most sensitive and sensitivecentres respectively, will have two extra Ansar men positioned.Therefore, 24law enforcement personnel  will be there at every riskycentre and 22 will be deployed at every non-risky or general one.”

One sub-inspector, one assistant sub-inspector, five policemen, one platoon commander, one assistant platoon commander, and three Ansar battalion men will be on duty at each ofthe polling centres, and they will be armed as well.

In addition,seven male and five female Ansar members will be on duty with batons alongside them.
