Voters are braving the rain to cast ballots, election officials say
Voting is underway for the elections in two union parishads and two wards in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila.
The voting began at 8am on Wednesday and will continue till 4pm.
Adequate law enforcing members have been deployed to ensure security during the voting.
Seven candidates are contending for chairman post in Birbasinda union and 5 are vying for the chairman post in Parkhi union.
Other candidates are contesting for member and reserved women member posts in both the unions.
There are a total of 37,591 voters—18,491 men and 19,100 women—in these unions.
Voting is also going on in the third ward of Bharra union at Nagarpur upazila and the fourth ward of Gabsara union at Bhuapur upazila.
As many as 14 Ansar members and 8 policemen are serving in each polling station.
Furthermore, 3 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh, RAB, and 433 policemen are also discharging their duties in the polling areas.
Tangail district Election Officer Tajul Islam said the voting is going on peacefully.
He said voters are braving the rain to cast their ballots.
No untoward incident has been reported yet, the election officer added.
