The voting in these centres on May 15 was postponed for various irregularities

The re-election in three centres under Khulna City Corporation, in which voting was postponed for various irregularities, will be held on Wednesday to decide the fates of a councillor and two female councillors.

The centres are Iqbal Nagar Secondary School under Ward 24, Labanchara Government Primary School under Ward 31, and Ward 31 Councillor Office.

The Election Commission has taken strict security measures to hold the voting in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

It has assigned new presiding officers and assistant presiding officers for the three polling centres.

Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali said four mobile teams of Rapid Action Battalion, one platoon of Border Guard Bangladesh, three magistrates, 22 policemen, 17 Ansar members and a separate mobile team of police will be deployed at each centre.

On May 15, the voting in these three centres was postponed following reported snatching of ballot papers and forced stuffing of ballot boxes.

However, after daylong voting citywide, Awami League candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque was elected the new mayor of Khulna city on May 15.
