The candidates failed to get one-eighth of the total vote, says the returning officer
The Election Commission has confiscated the security deposits of 92 out of 192 candidates of the Khulna City Corporation polls.
Among them are three mayoral candidates, 73 candidates of general councillor posts, and 13 candidates of reserved councilor posts.
Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali said: “We have confiscated security deposits of 48% of the candidates as they failed to get one eighth of the total vote.”
The election was held on May 15.
Awami League candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque bagged 1,74,851 votes at 286 of the total 289 polling centres while his closest rival BNP-nominated Nazrul Islam Monju got 1,09,251 votes.
