This is not the first time that Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, who is infamous for the allegations of graft and negligence against him, has done something like this, according to sources
It appears that Begum Rokeya University Rangpur Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah has developed a habit of being in the news. He has yet again done something controversial -- by conducting a class at 3:20am on Thursday.
However, sources said this was not the first time that he did something of the kind at or after midnight.
He imparted lessons on a course entitled “political thought” for the second semester of the first year undergraduate students (2019-20 academic session) of the Department of Gender and Development Studies.
Students of the department said they were asked at around 8:30pm on Wednesday to join the class (course code-1202) virtually.
The class that lasted 35 minutes was taken on Google Meet, a video-communication service developed by Google, they said.
Even though 28 students joined the class primarily, their final head count declined to just 12.
The incident has revived criticism against Kalimullah, who has been accused of nepotism, graft and irregularities ever since he was appointed VC.

He is believed to have been linked to a question paper leak, appointment of teachers and employees and even misappropriation of money from different development projects of the university.
Matiur Rahman, a professor at the Management Studies Department and convener of the Rights Protection Council of the university, termed the incident “absurd”.
“This can’t be done by a mentally fit person. He needs to see a psychiatrist and people close to him should take measures in this regard,” he said.
Despite repeated attempts for his comments, the BRUR VC could not be reached over the phone.
It is worth mentioning that his four-year job tenure expired on May 31—something he has not acknowledged.
The tenure, he claimed, would end on June 13 instead, as he had joined the university on June 14, 2017.
Amid such a situation, the Education Ministry on Wednesday appointed a new VC for the university, with effect from June 14.
The incumbent treasurer of the university, Md Hasibur Rashid, will replace Kalimullah, according to a gazette issued by the ministry in this connection.
