Over 105,500 applications were received for five units in first 48 hours
After remaining halted for two days due to technical issues, the online application process for undergraduate courses at Dhaka University (DU) for the academic session 2020-2021 is going to start again from 8pm on Sunday.
Dr Md Mustafizur Rahman, convener of the university’s online admission committee, confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.
Asked if the admission process would start at the pre-announced time, he said: "Our work is almost done. Hopefully, the process will start as per the schedule.”
Following the inauguration of the online admission application process on March 8, students faced a lot of problems while trying to access the DU website. The application process was paused temporarily to resolve the issue.
The website was reopened the next day, but some issues were still apparent.
While visiting the website designated for admission purposes (https://admission.eis.du.ac.bd), it was found that it took a long time to load after clicking on an instruction. On some occasions, the browser was showing a timeout error as well.
When the issues exacerbated, the authorities on Thursday decided to suspend the online admission process till 8pm on Sunday.
Dr Md Mustafizur Rahman earlier said the number of applications had quadrupled this time. “In the first 48 hours of the admission process, almost 105,500 applications were received for the five units. This put a lot of pressure on the admission website.
“In 2019, around 270,000 applications were received by the university. But this time, the numbers may surpass the 350,000 mark since the pass rate was higher and more students got promoted,” he said.
“If necessary, the application and deposit deadline will be extended,” he mentioned.
