Students of the department will be able to avail services, including attending online classes, examinations and information management
The Department of Japanese Studies (DJS), University of Dhaka, has launched an online learning platform for its students as the first ever department of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr Akhteruzzaman, graced the occasion as chief guest and inaugurated the online student management system, while Professor Dr Sadeka Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, spoke on the occasion as the special guest.
Shimizu Megumi, cultural affairs representative, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, also delivered a speech.
The Chairman of the Department, Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun, delivered the welcome address.
The DJS has developed this online “Student Learning Management System” and app of the department to run all activities online.
The Learning System includes online class facilities, blackboards, library, attendance and class management, assignment submission and feedback, online test and examination, skill development training, student communication protocol and department’s accounts and information management.
Dr Akhteruzzaman has termed this initiative as a grand success in the digitalization process. He gave immense importance to the nourishment of students both academically and practically in order for them to fit well in the global market competition.
In order to ensure transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and technological proficiency, every entity of this university has a role to play and through this student portal DJS has contributed towards elimination of discrimination by bringing all the members of the DJS under a single umbrella.
In her comments, Dean Dr Sadeka Halim congratulated the DJS for taking some pioneering steps for the benefit of students. She mentioned the need for students’ training in order for them to get accustomed to the app.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the department Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun elaborately described the uses of the app, which included the scope of taking online exams, monitoring class presence, uploading various materials for the students, et cetera.
Shiblee Noman, lecturer of the department, moderated the online inauguration ceremony. Among faculty members, Dr Md Jahangir Alam, Dr Dilruba Sharmin, Dr Lopamudra Malek, Ms Nashia Zaman and Md Saifullah Akon were present at the ceremony.
