Brac University has organized a virtual orientation program for the Summer 2020 semester, which was attended by about 80% of the freshmen.
The day long successful virtual orientation ended on Saturday, the university said in a statement. The event is traditionally hosted at the university’s Residential Campus in Savar.
Terming the current situation as “challenging for all”, Brac University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Vincent Chang said: “This will be a challenging start into academia for many students.”
“With our online learning platform buX and the Student Assistance Fund, we hope to make the remote learning experience at Brac University as smooth as possible.”
Prof Chang encouraged the students to turn challenges into opportunities during this difficult time when the world is going through a pandemic. He also shared his experiences when he started university.
The orientation program opened with the university anthem. It was followed by a tribute to the founder of Brac University, late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG, who passed away on December 20, 2019.
Opening remarks were made by Abdullah R Chowdhury, the proctor of the university.
The students were given an overview of the university via screened presentations.
Brac University alumnus Rafiath Rashid Mithila, who is the head of the Early Childhood Development program at Brac International, spoke at the event.
The department heads, as well as the faculty members, also attended this virtual orientation.
