‘B’-unit admission test to retaken on Wednesday
An absent student ranked 12th on the merit list of the ‘B unit’ admission test of the 2019-20 academic session of Comilla University (CoU). Upon investigation, it was found that another student made a mistake while filling the necessary boxes that denote a candidate’s roll number.
The matter was cleared after a three-member probe committee submitted a report on November 30. Furthermore, the admission process was suspended and will resume today (December 4) and go on till December 10. The decision to do so was confirmed via a press conference yesterday evening.
On the other hand, the committee found no evidence of fraud in the tests and reported that the incident happened due to a mistake of the student and the invigilator.
Earlier, Md Sazzatul Islam, the absentee bearing roll 206050 was expected to appear for the admission test at the Comilla's Teachers Training College. However, the attendance sheet for the exam center did not record him present. During the appraisal of the test through the OMR system ranked the absent candidate 12th. After the results were published, Sazzat did not appear for a viva-voce.
Later the authorities found that Md Ali Mostakin, a candidate bearing roll 206150 had made a mistake in marking the OMR sheet leading to Sazzat being ranked instead which resulted in Mostakin failing to make it to the merit list.
The absent candidate Sazzat confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune saying: “I did not appear for the admission test at Comilla University. However, I learned about the incident through newspapers on November 29. Even though I received a text message asking me to appear for the viva, I ignored it and deleted it.
CU registrar Prof Abu Taher said: “The admission process for ‘B unit’ will resume from Wednesday. The process was supposed to be completed on December 5 initially but students will now be able to complete their admission until December 10.”
