58 students attend JSC exam at night

Followers of Seventh-day Adventist Church only pray during daytime on Saturdays

A total of 58 students from the Christian community have attended the Junior School Certificate (JSC) exam at night in Gopalganj, as per their religious rule.

The students (23 boys and 35 girls) of Muksudpur upazila attended the exam on Saturday night.

They are students of Jalirpar Kegal Mukherjee Seminary High School of the upazila.

The High School Principal Shaymol Haldar said: “According to Christian religion, writing during the daylight on Saturdays is prohibited.”

“For this reason, after taking permission from the exam board, a special arrangement was made for the students to attend the exam from 6pm to 9pm,” Shaymol added.

Gopalganj Christian Fellowship President Samuel S Bala said: “Those who follow the ‘Seventh-day Adventist Church’ only pray during daytime, and that is why the students attended their exams at night.”

However, those 58 students had to enter the exam hall in the morning with other students, and had to stay till 9pm on the day.
