Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has urged the university authorities to ensure transparency in the recruitment process of teachers.

“We really want transparency in every aspect in university teachers’ enrollment. We have already ensured transparency in the secondary and higher-secondary levels where teachers were employed under the Non-Government Teachers Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA). Now it is time to think of setting up a commission for teachers’ recruitment for universities,” said the minister, reports BSS.

The education minister came up with the comments while addressing a seminar titled “Context Higher Education: Challenge and Possibility” held at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) on Friday afternoon.

Jagannath University (JnU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Mijanur Rahman, DU Teachers’ Association General Secretary Prof Shibli Rubaiyat-Ul Islam, DU Social Sciences Faculty Dean Prof Sadeka Halim, Bangladesh Chhatra League President Md Rezwanul Hoque Chowdhury Shovon, Chhatra League DU unit President Sonjit Chandra Das and DU unit General Secretary Saddam Hussain addressed the seminar, organized by Chhatra League DU unit.

Dr Dipu Moni also urged the concerned authorities to introduce a “coding system’ in students’ examination papers in public universities to ensure fairness in evaluation.

“If the coding system is introduced, then none can pre-plan results in favour of any student”, she added.

She urged the students to develop language skills, problem solving skills, critical thinking and innovative skills.

The education minister also said that the government is emphasizing on solving residential students’ problems and enhancing library facilities.

She also laid stress on inter-disciplinary education and teachers’ evaluation in the classrooms.

While addressing the seminar, JnU VC Mijanur Rahman opted for scrapping Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) based admission tests for proper evaluation of the candidates.
