'Although the universities oppose, combined entrance test for admission is necessary for sake of the students and guardians'

Update : 10 Apr 2019, 11:18 PM

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has suggested holding the first year admission test for the universities under a cluster system aiming at reducing sufferings to the admission seekers and their guardians like that of the medical colleges.

Although the universities oppose, combined entrance test for admission is necessary for sake of the students and guardians, she said at a view exchange meeting with journalists at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.

“If we can hold combined entrance tests for admission to medical colleges, why not for the universities? If we all (the universities) show, a little interest, then a combined entrance test is possible,” the minister said hoping that the universities “will cooperate” with the matter.

MPO announcement by May

The minister also informed that more educational institutions will be brought under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) coverage by the next month, reports BSS.

“Some 2,500 non-government educational institutions have been listed under four categories as qualified for MPO facilities,” she said.

Those institutions will be brought under the MPO coverage within this month or the next month, she said.

Dipu Moni said the government had started MPO process much earlier, considering the movement of teachers and employees who have been demanding MPO facilities.

“We will scrutinize information of the listed institutions. If the information is found valid, announcement of bringing all the 2,500 institutions under MPO coverage will be given simultaneously in the next month,” she added.
