Police have detained four suspects, for their alleged involvement with leaking the question paper of the 2nd paper English exam during the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (HSC) in Khagrachhari.

The detainees—Jenisson Chakma, Iqbal Hossain, Ariful Islam, and Anik Ray—were held around 12:30pm in front of the Manikchari Giri Maitre College on Monday. They were detained while reportedly supplying solved copies of the question papers to students.

The police also said Jenisson’s brother Tiklu Chakma was an examinee at the centre, and the suspects were caught red-handed while using a messenger app to send answers.

Confirming the matter, Manikchhari acting officer-in-charge Md Abdur Rashid said: “Carrying and using mobile phones inside the examination hall is prohibited. We suspect that the acting principal of the college, Mongseu Marma, had allowed students to use mobile phones during the exam.

“A case has been filed over the leak against five people, including the four presently in custody. We are trying to track down Tiklu Chakma, who is currently on the run from the law.”

The Dhaka Tribune had tried to contact the acting principal for comments, but he could not be reached after repeated attempts.
