Forty-eight students have won the prestigious "Top in the World"awards from Cambridge Assessment International Education for their exceptional performances in the June 2018 Cambridge examination series across Bangladesh.

They were presented the awards at a ceremony in Dhaka’s International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) on Saturday.

Students from 13 schools of the country achieved the highest marks in the world in a range of or individual subjects in the Cambridge International IGCSE, O level, and Cambridge International A and AS level qualifications.

There were also 35 students who won Top in the Country awards from schools across the country.

Brac Chairperson Fazle Hasan Abed addressing the gathering, said: "This award may open many windows to move forward in your [students] upcoming future. Doing well in examination is just one part of life; you have to do well for our society as well."

Andrew Newton, acting director of British Council said: "Your achievements as the top of the English medium education sector are the result of many years of hard work, courage and commitment. May this be the springboard for even further success as leaders of your country."

Ruchira Ghosh, regional director of Cambridge International South Asia said: "Cambridge International’s main aim is to prepare students for life, by developing subject understanding and key skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving."

Every year, nearly a million learners from 10,000 schools in 160 countries prepare for their future with an international education from Cambridge.

This year, Bangladesh has seen a significant increase in the total number of winners and awards compared to 2017.

Last year eight Bangladeshi students were awarded the "Top in the World" award from Cambridge Assessment International Education for outstanding performance in the June 2017 examination series.

British Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh Kanbar Hossein-Bor, and British Council International Examinations Director Sebastian Pearce were present, among others.
