Tuesday’s ceremony took place at ULAB’s Dhanmondi campus
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) is celebrating its 14th Foundation Day in the auditorium of its Dhanmondi campus.
Speaker of the Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presided over Tuesday’s ceremony as the chief guest.
In her speech, Shirin said, although a young institution, ULAB now sees its graduates excel in the corporate world in different sectors, as well as in local and international organizations.
“Students graduating from this institution find their places in the economic sector, business industries, and in different professions across the world. It is important to facilitating pre-thinking by allowing: open debates, research, the development of analytical power, and critical thinking,’’ she added.
Shirin also said scholarships are essential to give students access to good education.
“Universities have a responsibility towards the students to ensure a relevant education – that may have high tuition fees – so that once they graduate, they can excel in the future,’’ she said.
ULAB Board of Trustees member Kazi Anis Ahmed delivered the welcome speech, while ULAB Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam also spoke at the program. ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Jahirul Haque delivered the closing remarks.
As part of the event, Kazi Inam Ahmed, member of the ULAB Board of Trustees, gifted a crest to the chief guest.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Shamsad Mortuza, ULAB Registrar Professor Akhtar Ahmed, deans, heads of departments, faculty members, members of the administration, and students, attended Foundation Day.
