MPO inclusion to continue every year, he says

The government will distribute around 350 million textbooks free of cost among the primary and secondary level students in 2019 academic year.

Half of the textbooks have already reached the respective schools and the remaining will reach by December 14, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said on Sunday.

The minister made the statement after a meeting with the officials of Bangladesh Education Reporter Forum (BERF) at Secretariat in Dhaka.

The construction of 33,500 schools, colleges and madrasas, that started in the last 10 years will be completed by October 2019, Nahid said.

He also said different steps have been initiated for the development of the standard of education quality, especially Information Technology.

"Besides, various trainings are being provided to the teachers for increasing the standard of teaching," the minister added.

The process of inclusion of new educational institutions in the list of Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme will be continued every year, the minister said adding: "The scrutinizing process is underway. MPO scheme will be given phase by phase."

The BERF delegation was led by its President Mustafa Mallik while Secretary SM Abbas was present during the meeting.

Later, the team also met Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman at his office.

The decision of introducing primary education up to class VIII is under scrutiny, the primary education minister said.

"We will take necessary steps after getting the cabinet's approval," he said.

Responding to a question about the construction of separate washroom for female students, the minister said separate washroom has already been constructed in 39,000 schools.

"Rest will be constructed within two years," he added.
