The pass rate and number of GPA 5 scorers in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations have dropped in Jessore Education Board compared to last year.

The board secured a 60.40% pass rate, with 2,089 students scoring GPA 5, according to the results published on Thursday.

Last year, the pass rate was 70.02% and a total of 2,447 examinees had secured GPA 5.

Some 109,692 students from 573 educational institutions in Jessore had appeared in the HSC exams, held between April 2 and May 23. Of them, 66,258 came out successful.

The board’s Examination Controller Madhab Chandra Rudra told reporters that the biggest reason behind the pass rate drop was students’ poor performance in English.

“Only 65% students in Jessore board passed in English, which eventually affected the overall rate,” he said.

He said no students from four institutions under the board passed, while six instructions secured 100% pass rate.
