Jagannath University (JnU) authorities have expelled a Pharmacy Department student for his involvement in giving proxy for a student in the admission test of 2017-18 sessions.
On March 22, JnU administration had temporarily suspended Akib Bin Bari, a ninth batch student of 2013-14 sessions and organizing secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s JnU unit, and issued a show-cause letter in this regard.
Akib’s written reply submitted to the authorities on March 28 was not considered, as the allegations against him were proved true, according to a press release.
It said Akib was expelled under Article 11 (10) of the Jagannath University Act 2005, adding that the directive of expulsion approved by the JnU Syndicate was effective from Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
Earlier, on March 11, two students were arrested on charges of getting admission to the university through proxy exam, in the entrance test of 2017-18 sessions. Akib’s name came up in their confession.
The next day, Chhatra League’s Central Executive Committee had expelled Akib from the organization over his involvement in the matter.
