The government has appointed three eminent educationists of the country as national professors for five years.
They are Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman of Dhaka University’s Bangla Department, Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and University of Asia Pacific’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued an order on Tuesday announcing their appointments as national professors, in line with the National Professor (appointment, conditions and facilities) Resolution of 1981.
It said the trio would fulfil the duties and enjoy various facilities of national professors in accordance with the resolution.
Anisuzzaman, an academic of Bengali literature, had previously taught at Chittagong University.
Rafiqul is also an adviser to ULAB’s Center for Bangla Studies.
Jamilur, who also taught civil engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was the founding vice-chancellor of Brac University and a former adviser to a caretaker government.
