BUET Debating Club and Save the Children organize inter-varsity debate competition

Department of Environment (DoE), BUET Debating Club, and Save the Children are organizing a debate competition in Dhaka on the environment to celebrate the upcoming World Environment Day 2018, where 16 universities will participate. 

Eight university teams will take part in the quarter-final rounds on BUET premises on May 16, 2018. 

The winning team will battle in the semi-finals on the same day. 

The motto for this year is, “Beat Plastic Pollution: If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.”

Dr Sultan Ahmed, DG of Department of Environment inaugurated the 7th inter-university environment debate on May 14, 2018. 

The DG said: “Human beings are primarily responsible for pollution and action must be taken by us immediately to reverse the trend.”

Dr Mir Tareque Ali, Professor and Head, Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, BUET, attended as special guest. 

“While teaching students, we come across different issues related to lives under water. Due to human actions, lives under water get affected,” he said. 

Mirza Shawkat Ali, Director of Climate change & International Convention of DoE moderated the inaugural session. 

Participating universities include BUET, Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, North South University, Brac University.
