Thirteen students of different departments under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded the "Dean's Award" for their excellent academic results in the BSC Honours examinations of 2015 and 2016.
DU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the awards among the students at a function held at the university's Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Monday.
The awardees are Kajol Chandra Paul, Tahmid Hasan Rupam, Md Samiul Islam, Md Ikramul Haque, and Marshia Zaman Shaily of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department; Md Adib Hossain Chisty, Rifat Ara Masud, Md Ashiqur Rahman, and Md Mainuddin Khandokar of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department; Md Ashraful Islam, Sayanton Vhaduri Dibbo, Sabrina Zaman Ishita, and Md Mahfuj Howlader of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department.
Engineering and Technology Faculty Dean Prof Md Hasanuzzaman presided over the function while Pro-VC Prof Nasreen Ahmad addressed it as special guest. EEE Department Chairperson Prof SM Mostafa Al Mamun gave the vote of thanks.
Prof Akhtaruzzaman congratulated the awardees, saying: "Energetic youth like you are the strength of our country. You should always keep in mind that you have many things to do for our country. If you fail to fulfil nation's expectations, we will fall."
The DU VC stressed the need for conducting advanced level research to meet the demands of the general population.
"The young generation must equip themselves with non-communal and humanitarian values and prepare themselves with a combination of merit, patriotism, truthfulness, gratitude, and honesty," he said.
