The government has approved Khulna Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah University, and Ahsania Mission University of Science and Technology, taking the number of private universities to 99.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently approved in principle the setting up of these two universities, ministry sources said. A letter was sent to the secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on March 29 from the PMO for approval.
Md Mahiuddin Khan, additional secretary of the DSHE, said the final nod was given on Tuesday.
All activities of Darul Ihsan University are currently suspended at the court’s order while eight more universities are awaiting approval.
The government had approved ZNRF University of Management Sciences on January 29. It will be set up in Gulshan. Its founder is Dr M Zubaidur Rahman.
Ministry sources say the Khulna Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah University’s address has been shown as 140 KDA, Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Road, Chhoto Boira, Shonadanga, Khulna. Ahsania Mission University of Science and Technology’s address has been shown as 216/1 Talaimari, post- Kajla, Rajshahi.
The founder of the universities is Dhaka Ahsania Mission President Kazi Rafiqul Alam. He has previously gotten approval for Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology.
Ministry sources say the universities have been given approval on a temporary basis as per the Private University Act 2010.
Ministry sources say State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing has applied for setting up Bandarban University. Shamsul Alam, a Singapore expatriate, has sought approval for Shah Makhdum University.
Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad has applied for setting up a university in her name. Parliament Whip ASM Feroz has applied for setting up South Region University in Patuakhali.
Former MP and whip HM Golam Reza has sought approval for establishing Singapore University of Bangladesh at the capital’s Senpara while Parliament member Shamsul Hoque Bhuyan is seeking permission to set up Apollo University of Science and Technology.
Engineer AKM Mosharraf Hussain has sought approval for establishing International Standard University at Dhaka’s Mohakhali. Bangladesh Buddha Kristi Prachar Sangha’s President HN Ven Suddhananda Mahathero has applied for setting up of University of Atish Dipankar Bajragajni.
