The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations has began across Bangladesh.
The examinations started in a peaceful atmosphere in 2,541 centres at 10am on Monday.
A total of 1,311,457 students have registered for the public examinations -- 1,092,607 for HSC from eight general education boards while 100,127 for Alim under the Madrasah Education Board and 117,754 from the Technical Education Board -- from 8,943 educational institutions.
Of the candidates, 692,730 are males and 618,727 females.
Besides, some 299 students were scheduled to sit for the examinations from seven overseas centres.
The written examinations will continue until May 13 while the practical examinations will be held from May 14 to May 23.
Students with physical disabilities will receive an additional 20 minutes in the examinations.
Besides, students with special needs, including those with autism, will get 30 additional minutes.
