1.3 million students to appear in HSC exams this year

Update : 28 Mar 2018, 04:08 PM
Over 1.3 million students are going to sit the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations that are scheduled to begin next week, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday. “A total of 1,311,457 candidates will appear in the HSC and equivalent exams that will begin on April 2,” he said during a press briefing at the ministry conference room in Dhaka. “Of them, 692,730 are female candidates, and 618,727 are male candidates. "Of the 1.3 million candidates, 1,092,608 will appear in the HSC exams," the minister added. The exams will be held in 2,541 exam centres across the country, he further said. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Education ordered all coaching centres to shut down from Thursday in a bid to prevent question paper leaks – which has been a severe problem during the recently held Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations. “The coaching centres will remain closed until the end of the examinations,” Abu Saleh Mohammed Sajjad, deputy secretary of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division, told reporters. On Sunday, ministry officials said they would decide which sets of questions to use in the exams only 25 minutes before each test is scheduled to begin. “The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Dhaka will arrange a 'lottery’ system to select the set,” said Md Sohrab Hossain, secretary of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division. This article was first published on banglatribune.com
