Muhith wants to install a library in every school

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday said every school in Bangladesh will get a library soon. He was speaking as the chief guest at the first ever National Library Day program at Sufia Kamal National Public Library in Dhaka. “We have instructed the school authorities to renovate their libraries. We have now allocated a budget for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to buy novels for libraries, which was previously allocated for the Ministry of Education,” he said. “We have planned to develop libraries in every school in the country,” the finance minister said. There are only 71 public libraries for 160 million people in Bangladesh. Department of Public Libraries (DoPL) under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs arranged programs marking the day all over the country. Founder of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra Abdullah Abu Sayeed said: “Marking library day will revitalize readers love for books.” President of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Culture Affairs Ministry Simin Hossain Rimi, Director General of Department of Public Libraries Ashish Kumar Sarker, Secretary to the Cultural Ministry Md Ibraheem Hosein Khan were present at the program among others.
