Pabna Medical College shut after clash between rival Chhatra League groups
The authorities of Pabna Medical College (PMC) have shut down the institution for an indefinite period following the infighting at campus between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) which left nine people injured. Police and authorities said a dispute over establishing supremacy at campus had been brewing for the last few days between the factions of Chhatra League's PMC unit president Dr Mahfuz Noyon and general secretary Aditiyo Dey. Around 1:30am on Friday, the deadlock had finally broken down as the two rival groups carried out attacks on each others for more than hour inside the campus. Members of police forces, who arrived at the scene after a while, brought the situation under control and made the unruly members of both groups go back to their dormitories. Later at 6am, Noyon's group launched a final assault on Aditiyo's group that left a total of nine students injured. The injured have been taken to different hospitals in Pabna. PMC Principal Dr Reazul Haque Reza said the authorities have shut down the institution for an indefinite period and ordered students to leave the hall by 2pm Friday. Confirming the matter, Officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar police station Abdur Razzak said the police have brought the situation under control. "No complaint has been filed yet," he added.
