The students demanded to cancel the recent hike in the fee of each credit from Tk50 to Tk110.
Students of Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University (Mawlana Bhasani University) have staged demonstrations on their campus protesting a recent hike in their tuition and other fees.
They brought out a procession and lit fire in front of the main administrative building on the campus on Saturday afternoon moments after their proctor, Professor Dr Sirajul Islam, informed that a memorendum of their demands, which was submitted earlier around 12am, had been turned down by the university authority.
They also locked the university’s main gate and the entrances of the main administrative building around 4pm.
The memorandum included demands to cancel the recent hike in the fee of each credit from Tk50 to Tk110 and the transportation charge from Tk100 to Tk300.
The student also demanded withdrawal of examination fee, laboratory fee and all types of development fees.
After hours of negotiation, the students finally called off their protest around 8pm.
The university’s proctorial body is likely to sit in on a discussion with the representatives of the students on Saturday night.
