Students of Thakurgaon Chamber School and College have washed the feet of their mothers in an unique event held alongside a ceremony where the results of their annual examinations were handed over.
The program was organised at the school premises at Thakurgaon bus stand area of the town on Tuesday.
The institution authorities said they had taken the initiative to instate social values and high morals among the students.
Addressing the program, Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Abdul Awal said recently the government had enacted a law to punish people who neglect the duty of looking after their ageing parents.
“If the children are taught to respect their parents from the school level, their will be no need for implementing this law,” he said.
The institution's management body President Habibul Islam Bablu also echoed Awal's remarks, adding: "This initiative will hopefully instill among the children the idea of taking care of their parents when they are old."
The mothers, who attended the program, praised the initiative with many of them saying it would make their children more responsible.
