A round-table forum titled “Tea4Tolerance: Discussion on Tolerance amongst Youth” was held in the Faculty of Social Science Building of University of Dhaka on November 2, organised by The Umbrella Initiative.
Attended by 20 current students of different disciplines and backgrounds, the forum fostered participants to share their unique views on the causes of intolerance among the youth in Bangladesh.
As the title suggests, the organisers had set up a makeshift tea stall and facilitate conversations over cups of tea.
The conversation ended with participants giving group presentations on solutions to problems they had identified that may cause intolerance amongst youth.
The Umbrella Initiative is a student-led anti-extremism campaign from Dhaka University, who seek to create a space among youths who prefer tolerance over violence and inclusion over prejudice. The student-led body is currently competing in the Peer to Peer (P2P): Facebook Global Digital Challenge.
