APUB: Amendment to Private University Act should involve stakeholders

Update : 12 Oct 2017, 12:40 PM
The Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) has held an emergency meeting after newspapers ran reports on the proposed report of the sub-committee formed by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education Ministry to amend the Private University Act 2010. At the meeting held at APUB's office on Tuesday, its members expressed surprise and concern as the trustee association representatives were not contacted during the process to change and amend the Act. APUB members concurred that decisions taken without consulting the stakeholders are, in many cases, not quite acceptable, the association said in a statement on Wednesday. However, according to the news reports, the sub-committee in its report has advised consulting the association's representatives. APUB thanked the parliamentary standing committee for its decision, though belated. Tuesday's meeting, chaired by APUB and Fareast International University Chairman Sheikh Kabir Hossain, was also attended by Vice-Chairman and BUBT Trustee Prof Dr Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Secretary General and North South University Trustee Benajir Ahmed. APUB Joint Secretary General and Ulab's Vice President Dr Kazi Anis Ahmed, treasurer and Victoria University of Bangladesh's Chairman KBM Moin Uddin Chisty, Daffodil International University Chairman Md Sabur Khan, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology Chairman Kazi Rafiqul Alam were also present. Besides, Fareast International University's Trustee Md Abdullah, Canadian University of Bangladesh Chairman Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, The University of Asia Pacific's Trustee KM Akhtaruzzaman, and Southeast University Chairman Md Rezaul Karim, among others, took part in the meeting.
