Comilla teacher plagiarised 6 chapters in Technical Education textbook
Several chapters of a textbook under the Technical Education Board has been copied from another book without the writer's permission, it has emerged. Engineer Mohammad Mahbub Alam admitted to copying six chapters for his 'Programming Essentials' book from Maksudur Rahman Maateen’s book 'Sohoj Bhashay Python 3' (easy guide to Python 3). Maateen’s book was published in this year's book fair while Mahbub’s book was published by Haque Publications on August 1. “I have settled the matter with the writer and publisher,” Mahbub, a teacher at Comilla Polytechnic Institute, told Bangla Tribune before hanging up. Maateen alleged that Mahbub did not recall the book from the market even after the plagiarism came into light. “I learned last week that an engineer had taken material from my book and used them in a book for the third semester of engineering diploma,” Maateen said. “I called him (Mahbub) and asked him to recall all copies of the book. He told me that that he would do so after three months. There's no point in recalling the book after three months since it will be sold out within this period,” he added. Maateen said he did not take immediate legal action, because that would have tarnished Mahbub's image as a teacher. “I am preparing to file a case now,” he added.
