The Chittagong University (CU) is planning to introduce “Bangabandhu Chair” to carry out extensive research on different aspects of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s life and his activities, sources say.
A proposal to set up the chair has already been prepared, sources say, adding that it will be placed in the August 27 syndicate meeting.
“It (Bangabandhu Chair) is a fellowship where PhD or MPhil pursuers will get the opportunity to conduct research on the life and works of Bangabandhu,” acting Registrar Prof Dr Kamrul Huda told Dhaka Tribune.
He said the university would look after the chair while the chair's in-charge would monitor the overall research and activities of the researchers.
The university will also formulate a policy on the fellowship.
The decision to introduce the chair has been welcomed by teachers, students and university officials.
Prof Dr Md Rashed-un-Nabi, also the CU Bangabandhu Parishad’s chief, said the decision was a milestone in the university's history.
