Committee formed to probe assault on BracU teacher

Responding to the students’ demands, Brac University is looking into the alleged assault on a former teacher of the university by the registrar. A five-member investigation committee was formed on Tuesday, the university said a statement on its website. Members of the academia, a BRAC University alumni and a student will represent the student body in the committee. The investigation body has been directed to submit its report within seven working days from August 2.

Brac University has urged all concerned parties to come together to solve the issue expeditiously and fairly. Earlier on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Syed Saad Andaleeb announced that he had reached an agreement with the students. Former teacher Farhaan Uddin Ahmed was allegedly assaulted by Registrar Maj Gen (retd) Muhammad Sahool Afzal, Assistant Registrar Md Mahi Uddin and Senior Officer of Co-Curricular Activities Jabed Rasel, according to a case filed with Banani police on July 30. The news of the assault sparked an outrage among Brac University students who have been protesting since Sunday.
