The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations for 2017 have begun across the Bangladesh.
The examinations began Sunday morning.
According to BSS, a total of 1,183,686 examinees from 8,864 educational institutions are taking part in the examinations. Of the candidates, 635,697 are male and 547,989 female.
A total of 982,783 examinees are from the eight general education boards while 99,320 candidates are appearing under the madrasa board.
Students with disabilities will receive an additional 20 minutes in the examinations. Students with special needs, including those with autism, shall receive 30 additional minutes.
The theoretical examinations will continue till May 15, while practical examinations will be held from May 16-25, education ministry sources said.
Earlier in a press briefing, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said 50 units across 26 subjects will be tested under the creative question method this year.
A total of 1,218,628 examinees appeared in the HSC and equivalent examinations last year.
