Teachers and employees of the non-MPO educational institutions have demanded nationalisation of their jobs by inclusion into Monthly Payment Order.
The demands were to nationalise all non-MPO education institutions and thereby- include all non-government education institutions in the MPO list, a 5% annual increment in salaries of the non-government school teachers and employees, retirement benefits including pension within three months, read a handout by Bangladesh Teacher's Association (BTA).
A press conference was held at the National Press Club on Wednesday.
President of BTA Professor MM Awal Siddique told the Dhaka Tribune: “The government has said that due to financial problems, teachers cannot be entitled to MPO list. Although many schools are eligible to be MPO listed, they are being deprived of the facilities from the government.
“Since 2010, no teachers and employes have not been added in the MPO list. We demand that in the coming budget there will be allocation to enlist teachers in MPO. Otherwise it is a discrimination against teachers and employees of educational institutions,” he said.
As a protest against the discrimination, this year the teachers will form a human chain at 11am and will bring procession in the street across the country on March 16 and also plan to boycott class in the very first period on March 23, read the handout by BTA which was signed by the BTA president and general secretary.
In 2015, the Minister for Education, Nurul Islam Nahid had said teachers of MPO-listed educational institutions will get salaries and other allowances under the new pay scale announced for the public servants.
The non-MPO listed teachers and employees are demanding to receive their payment as per the 8th pay scale as per the government issued gazetted notification published on December 15 where the basic salary of Grade 20 employees was stated to be Tk8,250.
